I woke up to my mother ( Anna Herring Ewing) and my father ( Benjamin Ewing) singing" Happy Birthday to You" when I noticed my nightgown was only down to my knees. I pointed it out to my father and he just said " you probably just outgrew it." But I was worried. It fit me perfectly last night. I went outside to play with my friend. I loved smelling the Lagrange Missouri air in the morning. She came and said "Ella! Your head is touching the the bottom Of the first branch!" Thoughts were zooming in and out of my mind. " sorry I have to go!" I told my friend. I went to measure myself. I'd grown an inch overnight! People made fun of me and laughed at me. I tried to ignore them but my parents did not like that their only child was being picked on. By the time I was a teenager I was normal, and six foot and nine inches. I was glad I was an only child. If I had a sibling that would be one more person to pick on me. My mother and father were embarrassed by the attention.
